Philip's first Halloween. Those were Superman PJs. All I had to do was make the cape.
Today's story is a short one, and thank goodness! I've spent the day back and forth at an estate sale. Made four, count 'em, 4 trips! I'm busting to talk about that, but will leave it for tomorrow.

My dad was a second (or third) generation textile mill worker. Like most kids his age, he went to work young. Was a foreman by the time he was 16. Shortly after that, at the tail end of WWII he left for the Army, and never looked back at the mill. When he came back home, he found employment elsewhere and did pretty well for himself.
All the mill families lived in the Mill Village and walked to and from work. Daddy was on evenings and the quickest way home was past the Village Cemetery. That one, dark night, as he passed the cemetery, a ball of light shot out across the road in front of him. Scared the you know what out outta him! He ran home and told everyone what had happened. The grown-ups just tut-tutted it and said it was just swamp gas. But doesn't swamp gas form in low lying areas? The cemetery is the highest point in the whole village! He took the long way home from then on.

There won't be a Halloween post tomorrow. There's too much to tell about the estate sale. I've been to some good ones this summer, but I believe this one tops them all!
