I was first!

I got to go to the sale after all and I was the first one there! Hot dog! It was advertised in the paper, but with no days or times. I only knew about it because my sweet friend, M, saw the sign and called me last night.

I called Ms L early this morning to let her know about it, remember we're great friends and booth partners, and said I had to go to the bank first when the drive through opened at 7:00. That was my plan, anyway. The sale was only a block from my bank (told you this is a small town), so I figured I'd ride by the sale first to be sure the sale wasn't already open. Sure enough, the man was putting his sign back out. Well, how could I go to the bank when he was ready?

I circled back around, got out and had first pick of everything for awhile. Everything, meaning all 40 items he had for sale. Now, to be fair, he had mostly furniture, not many smalls. He had a lovely Stickley dining room table and chairs which was just a little bit out of my price range.

Ms L drove up as I was writing my check. I felt bad that I was so far ahead of her. Really! I did! We work together. Besides, I didn't have much that she would have wanted. We walked around together for a bit and she found a refrigerator dish lid I'd missed thinking it was an ashtray. I let the ashes fool me.

I'd asked the seller if there was anything in the garage and was told it was nothing I'd want. Just some lawnmowers and junk. Just the word, "junk" makes my heart beat faster, but "junk" combined with "old garage" and "nothing you'd want" nearly makes me hyperventilate. Ms L and I slipped off to the 1913, one car garage and started digging. Yes, it really was junk, but you can bet we bought some of it! She got a little red wagon, some old, old, rusty, Lionel train cars, and an old window screen. I might be forgetting something, but I forgot, so I don't remember. I got a large tin full of old tiles that were used around the fireplaces in the house. Most that I saw were broken, but I couldn't resist. I also got a couple of plaques and some bookends. Nothing to write home about.

Inside the house netted me a wicker plant stand, an old, copper heat lamp, a clothes rack to hang those vintage clothes I bought last week on and three, swing picture frames.

All in all a fairly decent haul, but the best part was getting to see the house. It was a wonderful, rambling, 1913, arts and crafts style bungalow. Can a bungalow be rambling? I don't know, but it was. I've always wanted to see inside the house. Naturally, I didn't have my camera with me. It will start going everywhere I go.

I do hope to get to go out tomorrow, I'm not sure if I'll make it. I've dilly dallied around and haven't got the house company clean for the weekend. It might take awhile to finish.
